Checks
The questions inside a module, what happens when you answer, and what gets recorded.
Checks are the questions inside a module. This page explains what you'll be asked, how many tries you get, and what happens after you answer.
A check is not an exam at the end. It sits close to what it asks about. Usually a chapter's questions come together once the chapter has finished explaining. Sometimes they are spread out, each question right after the scene it asks about.
What you'll be asked
- One answer: pick one option out of three or four. The screen says Choose one option.
- Several answers: more than one option is right. Pick every option that applies. The screen says Select all that apply.
- True or false: judge a statement, with True or False.
For every kind, you pick first, then press Check answer.
A check's questions share one screen. A counter shows where you are, such as 1 of 2. The voice reads each question when it appears, then waits for you.
You get a second try
One-answer and several-answer questions give you one retry. True or false gives you a single attempt.
- One answer: if your pick is wrong, you're told why that option is wrong, and Try again appears. The option you spent stays marked, and you can't pick it again.
- Several answers: if your combination is wrong, Try again appears, but you're not told which picks were the problem. Your picks stay on screen so you can adjust them.
After you answer
Every question has an explanation. It appears once the question is settled: when you get it right, or when your attempts are spent.
Then you move on yourself:
- Next question shows the next question on the same screen.
- Continue, after the last question, moves the module on.
Every check holds the module
You can't skip a check. Until you've answered every question on it:
- playback stops at the check,
- moving forward lands you back on it,
- the chapters after it show a lock in the chapter list.
There is no pass mark. A wrong answer never blocks you: once your attempts are spent, you see the explanation and can continue. If you leave part way through a check, it holds you again when you come back, until every question on it is answered.
Getting help with a question
The module's tutor won't reveal or confirm the answer to a question you haven't answered yet. Ask it about the idea behind the question instead. While you're on a check, selecting text offers Help me reason about this.
When your last attempt at a question is wrong, the side panel opens by itself. Where the tutor is available, its question box already holds: I got this question wrong: "…" Explain why my answer was incorrect. Send it, and the tutor explains why your answer was wrong and why the right one is right. See Asking questions.
What gets recorded
For each answer, Vidext saves which question it was, which option you chose (all your picks, on a several-answer question), whether it was right, which attempt it was, and how long you took. You never type an answer in a check, so nothing you write is saved from them.
